Chapter 18
Well, I finally got back on the road again. I loaded my stuff up on Tuesday and Wednesday mourning I started my first run in over 3 months!
Or I thought I was! I didn't even make it off the yard when I had to pull this POS (piece of *hit) truck into the shop just for them to tell me to just turn it off and let the computer fix it's self!
Yeah right! That's the "cheap" fix and the next 3 ½ days were total hell! Every freakin time the truck stopped and I had to change gears I had to go through this stupid turn it off and turn it on to see if the CPU would let me have the gear I wanted!
Now I know most of you are thinking "What? Just move the gear shifter to what ever gear you need and give it the gas"! Well this POS is an AUTOMATIC! I hate class 8 trucks with an automatic as they are as far as I'm concerned "new" technology and not worth MY time waiting on, even when the stupid thing is brand new (this POS has 439,000 miles on it)! So anyway, I made it to Bethlehem, Pa., back to Leesport, Pa. and back here so they can work on the truck. They still have it in the shop and can't figure out the electrical problem in the dash. Just give me something that's half as old with no automatic and let me go make some money! PLEASE! My recommendation is a gallon of gas on the floor boards between the seats and a match, and then rebuild the stupid Freightliner from the ashes!
While I was out on the road I actually put a quarter in one of those scales in the bathroom as I hadn't been weighed since I went in for chemo last week and I was dying to see what I weighed! OMG! This can't be right! 132????? No way I lost that much! Heck my wedding band is still snug on my finger! So I wait till I get home and use the "big" scale in the shop. It'll handle 40,000 pounds real easy and this 130 something should be easy for it and it says 140! OK! That is until I get to the emergency room in the mourning.
Yes, the chemo I took for 4 days last week has a nice side effect. It put a lot of sores in my mouth and throat and my oncologist didn't prescribe anything for me and by the time I got back I needed to go to the emergency room for an antibiotic. And such a nice antibiotic it is! 1000 mgs of BIG! Hey doc? Did you hear the part where I told you it HURTS to swallow? ROFLMAO! I actually get the thing down but it really is a PAIN! But as I suspected the scales at the truck stop were wrong! I actually weighed 134 pounds! ARRRRGGGG! Makes me crazy but at least I should be back to 150 by the 28th when I go through another 4 days of chemo!
Now, if it will hurry and get the job done and clear these sores up as last night I had…….
PIZZA!
That's right,
PIZZA!
You know those wonderfully round, sliced into equal parts looking like a wedge with all kinds of tasty things spread around on the top that taste so delicious?
Last night, as we sat down to dinner I was looking at my usual can of Campbell's home style chicken noodle soup, oh, don't get me wrong. I love chicken noodle soup but I'm getting tired of it really fast! But as it's one of the few foods I can eat for the "solidness" of the contents!
It's going to take a few months before things "taste" right again! Hopefully before Thanksgiving and Christmas! Even though I really don't care so much about the food as I do about waking up every mourning and keeping air going in and out!
My sons were eating next to me as I was doing my noodle soup and I couldn't stand it any more! I cracked! The smell of fresh baked pizza pie coming from around the table did the job! I actually let a primal moan escape and reached over to my youngest plate and took my spoon and scraped a little of the toppings off for a bite, and it was….
PIZZA!
I got a great taste, the tomato wasn't too very acidity (?) and the flavor came through for me! The cheese "melted" in my mouth and the little pieces of Basil was heavenly! I had almost 2 full peaces and was in heaven! Soup and pizza! What a combo! But the calories were there. It didn't come from a stupid can through a feeding tube which I still have, waiting for my weight to get back to 155 and a set of dentures that will fit so I can chomp my way back to health!
It was PIZZA!
I almost got up and did a Snoopy dance around the dining room!
PIZZA!
It was almost as good as the beef stew I ate last Friday!
PIZZA!
Did I mention I had PIZZA last night?
Never think there is no hope when there is PIZZA!
Anything is possible when there is PIZZA!
2 whole (well the toppings off of them) pieces of
PIZZA!
I fell asleep on the couch and now I'm writing in my journal!
My family let me sleep on the COUCH!
After PIZZA, it was like camping!
